About the lesson
Siddharta Gautama was the founder of Buddhism. He was born a Sakya prince in Nepal and died in Kusinara. The Upanishads are the later Vedic texts which have student-teacher dialogues and philosophies. Vardhamana Mahavira is the 24th tirthankara (guru) of Jainism and he was born in Vaishali, Vajji. Mahavira and Buddha created sanghas or associations of those who left their homes in search of true knowledge.
Monasteries, also known as viharas were permanent shelters for monks and nuns and were built before the rainy season.
